INTERVIEWER: Have you ever had to push through another technical difficulty like that?
KELLY: Oh, yeah. The Orange Bowl. The one Ashlee Simpson got booed. I sang at that along with Trace Adkins, and then she sang. It was supposed to be Gwen Stefani, then she bailed at the last minute, so they got Ashlee to close. But that whole time during Trace's whole set, and during my first song, there was nothing in our ears. We had nothing. There was zero— The only reason I knew how to start was I was sitting on stairs and I felt the "bum bum bum" for Since You Been Gone in my butt. You could see my face, if you go back and YouTube it. I'm like, "Here's the thing..." Are we started? I'm looking back at my band. Nobody has anything in their ears.
INTERVIEWER: When you walk away from that, is it a sense of relief that you did it successfully, or are you throwing microphones and kicking things over and screaming?
KELLY: No, I'm laughing. I'm the girl that laughs and is like, "Wow, let's get sooo drunk I don't remember this."
INTERVIEWER: I wanna hang out with you after you screw up, 'cause it sounds like a big drunk fest.
KELLY: I went up to Blake and Miranda before we went out. We were on the field, and they were about to go, and I was like, "Ya'll are gonna do so great. Ya'll are gonna do so great. Okay, now tell me the same. Tell me the same." Blake handed me a drink and so did Miranda." And they were like, "Do you need that?" And I was like, "No, I'm gonna drink after. I'm gonna drink after. I'm afraid that'll mess me up." Then afterwards we got off stage, off the field, and Miranda's running up to with a drink and that was my first one of the night.
INTERVIEWER: [...] On The Voice the other night, one of the contestants needed a drink—
KELLY: Oh, I saw that. That was alcohol, I promise. His whole thing is rum and crystal light. He and Miranda are really in to that. It's kind of a girly drink, right? He made me [one for] the first time, I was like, "You giant girl." But it's actually so good.
